What is bohemian style?

The origins of bohemian style:

THE bohemian style today broad and emblematic has its roots in the rise of the movement hippie in the 1960s, at the same time as major musical events like Woodstock. This is also where the movement comes from Flower Power which was a peace movement.

A bit of history...

The bohemian style was born from a very protest movement and in antagonism with its contemporaries, in fact this style was created in a very compartmentalized and rigid, in fact in the sixties the army in the United States had a preponderant place. At that time, apartheid was still relevant and, above all, the country was engaged in the Vietnam War. The very strong political power repressed with violence the pacifist demonstrations in favor of the repatriation of soldiers.

This rigidity was felt in the mentalities of people being directed, following established rules and having clothing united with dull colors , it is in this situation that the bohemian look, in a search for freedom, protest and novelty. Which explains the diversity of fabrics used for example, in fact the creators of their own outfits bought rolls of linen,  silk, lace, muslin… And what about solid colors we called this movement Flower Power you understand why and yes patterns and floral prints which at the time were reserved for curtains or tablecloths. We also started to imagine new looks with less straight cuts, with bell-bottomed pants, casual tops, span> wide, fluid and very comfortable.

What was the bohemian look back then?

During these years slim, cuts close to the body, thick cotton clothes predominated, often the colors were solid, rare > dresses, skirts or fashion pieces enhanced the tone a little with checks and scratches.

It is clear that it must have been a surprise at the time to see this colorful movement emerge with numerous asymmetrical motifs and very span> florals, necklines provocative, fine straps that left the shoulders visible to all and loose outfits made of very fine fabrics until now never used for clothing.

The bohemian style is a look for women, at the time it also served to claim the emancipation and independence of women, until then very confined to the home and the education of children. The bohemian movement beyond embellishing the wardrobe is a pacifist and feminist movement arguing for the freedom of women in the face of any authority .

Let's define the bohemian style

The bohemians of the time of the 19th century were referred to as the marginals not fitting into any box, not integrating into social circles or religion through their lifestyle, their beliefs, their homes and sometimes their dressing style strong>. So from its origins the word bohemian designated people who did not recognize themselves in the rules and defied them. Subsequently we could see the gypsies of the time being called bohemians, territories being called Land of Bohemia...

An overused term that has become contemporary

This word has managed to cross eras, styles in particular through art, poetry and song to find itself in the 60s and be confused with the movement hippie protestant, marginal and not recognizing themselves in the established rules Also. In this way we witnessed a melting pot of different styles, looks and trends resulting in the emergence of a whole new way of dressing. What about chic outfits strict clothing and uniforms required at school or work. At that time, under the leadership of young people aspiring to a new era of freedom , the classics were shaken up at all levels whether in dressing rooms by welcoming clothes of all colors with printed completely unusual. But also in art, music was the major channel of diffusion via Rock, Pop, let us cite some big names such as Jimmy Hendrix, Charles Aznavour , Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin or the famous group Queen and its emblematic singer Freddy Mercury . At the end of the 1960s and the lull in this cataclysmic movement on the way of life of the entire world, the bohemian fashion which was then mixed and confused with the movement hippie went out of fashion and was put at the bottom of wardrobes.

It was then during the 90s that this movement reappeared under the name of bohemian chic style or Bobo (bourgeois-bohemian), this movement this time claimed femininity and called on women to assume responsibility for having a style that they like even if it means having a different style, to accept their body shape and first of all to seek freedom and joy in their life. This movement also widely introduced the arrival and return of pants with widened cuts at the heels. The bohemian style during this period reinvented itself while keeping its origins relaxed, neckline with many patterns of stripes, checks and other flowers.

Add a touch of color to your wardrobe

The bohemian style is not a dull style, with black or white clothing. If you want to become a real bohemian, you need to have colorful clothes and ditch the clothes which have a streetwear look like jeans, a shirt, oversized pants, or even simple shorts or t-shirt. Your clothes should be colorful, casual, with patterns like stripes or polka dots. Ditch the classic style that every woman wears and dress in a colorful style 🌈 and atypical!

Dare to wear sexy and fancy clothes

For women, wearing a low cut or a simple strap dress is reserved for a chic evening or dinner , it's wrong ! Dress in a feminine and sexy way whenever you want, a flowy sleeveless dress /strong> accompanied by a pair of boots is much more glamorous than a tank top, so dare and above all don't rely on what others say. The bohemian chic style is a style that is very often sexy and romantic with rather fitted clothes for more femininity. And don't forget, dressing in aglamorous❣️ way is not only associated with spring summer, you can very well wear a black tailored dress or a little short dress fitted in winter, you just need to add a jacket or a cardigan.

Give way to your creativity for a total bohemian look!

A word to remember regarding the bohemian style : creativity. Let your instinct speak and combine clothes that you wouldn't have dared to take out of your wardrobe Before. For example, combine a bohemian sweater woman with a high-waisted skirt, let your heart speak when dressing yourself. It will be what you need and will make you happy, and above all make you chic and unique!

What accessories should I wear with my bohemian look?

In order to complete your bohemian outfit and adopt a total bohemian look, we advise you to opt for fancy accessories like the bohemian jewelry colorful. Jewelry as a ring , necklace or bracelet will be the perfect accessories to complete your bohemian outfit . If you are wearing a colorful checkered dress or even a ethnic bohemian tunic , avoid wearing costume jewelry, the outfit will be too fashionable and colorful. On the other hand, if you wear a simple black dress , don't hesitate to add a touch of color with a colorful ring or other costume jewelry. If your dress or your blouse for example is colorful, opt for silver or gold jewelry, synonymous with simplicity. Don't forget to add a pair of earrings to your look, but be careful, if you already wear the jewelry 💍 mentioned above, avoid adding earrings, you risk overdoing it.

In addition, you can also complete your bohemian look with bags, a scarf, a hat or a belt. It all depends on the look you want and what you like. We do not recommend wearing everything at the same time, it will be too much. For example, wearing a black leather bag 👜 with your hippie chic dress , with a colorful hat to add a chic look. On the other hand, avoid wearing a scarf as an additional accessory, you risk overdoing it and adding too many accessories to your outfit. Have a bohemian look means that you embrace yourself and wear what you like, but there is no point in covering yourself from head to toe with a ton of accessories.
