Basically, Coachella is a giant annual music festival in Indio, California. The festival has grown tremendously since its first year in 1999 and is now much more than just a weekend to listen to good music.

The essence
Officially named "The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival" (also called "Coachella" or even just "Chella"), the festival has quite an interesting history. It all started when the band Pearl Jam had a dispute with TicketMaster over its service fees, claiming it financially targeted both fans and artists. That's why Pearl Jam began looking for other venues for its tour that did not include Ticketmaster.
The band eventually ended up using the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, CA, where the festival still takes place today. In 2012, the festival grew so much that the organizers turned it into two distinct weekends.🤪
Why is it so big?
Coachella has become one of the most beloved festivals in the world, with around 579,000 attendees in 2014.🤩
Although everyone who has the chance to attend has their own reasons for loving the festival, its location likely explains in large part why so many people flock to the middle of nowhere to listen to music.🌄
The fact that it takes place in the desert must certainly give it an edge over other festivals, especially the rainy and muddy weekends we are used to in France.
But as the festival grows and social media allows us to follow all the movements of our favorite celebrities, Coachella has become a huge celebrity hotspot.

Although Coachella's roots are all about music, it has become much more expansive in recent years. The music festival takes place on five main stages: the Coachella stage, the outdoor theater, the Gobi tent, the Mojave tent, and the Sahara tent. Major acts perform in the evening as the last acts, while smaller artists and bands play throughout the day.
When is Coachella?
Coachella takes place every two weekends in April, although the dates are not always the same. The festival usually runs on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. In 2019, it will start on Friday, April 12.
How much does participation cost?
It's a bit ironic that Coachella started with a dispute over ticket prices, given the cost of attending the festival today. In 2019, tickets start at $429 for a three-day pass. Of course, this includes three full days of music, but it's still steep.😬
Once there, you need a place to stay, as the festival is located in the desert. Passes for RV camping cost a little over $100, which is your best option.
